On April 20, 2021 M28 a short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft arrived in Kenya following a trans-Atlantic flight from USA to become a new asset in support of Kenya Air Force (KAF).
The first out of three M28 05 aircraft was acquired through the Excess Defence Article (EDA) program and was intended to phase out the Y-12 aircraft. The acquisition is exercised through the Kenya United States Liason Office (KUSLO) agreement signed by Kenya and USA governments on April 4th 2017.
Let us remind that the US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) acquired 19 M28 aircraft also known as Combat Coyotes in 2009 and were acquired through Sierra Nevada Corporation, which prior to delivery developed modification works to the aircraft and prepared them for their special missions.
The aircraft are flown in locations across the globe performing infiltration, exfiltration, resupply and other missions as well as foreign air force training.
